Reliability.
This is a new flask I bought to replace one with an unreliable lid.
As I don't like throwing things away I decided to mess with the seal on the stopper of the old flask before giving up on it completely. I didn't realise my husband had recently filled the flask with boiling water. I adjusted the seal and tipped the flask upside down to see if my efforts had proved successful. They hadn't. My skin stung for several days.
Checking things for reliability can be risky. I'm never sure my ironing board is secure but when I lean on it to check I often finish up with bruises on top of my feet. I would tell you what the top of my feet were called if I could remember the technical name. I can think of arch, ball, sole, heel, but they are all on the bottom. It's probably called the instep but that doesn't sound right. Unreliable chairs are always a challenge because the only way to really check if they're safe is to sit on them and by then if they're not, it's too late. (It's also very funny for people watching.) I suppose faith is deciding whether you can trust something or more properly whether you can trust someone. The only way we will know for sure is to try it out, to lean our full weight on it and see if it holds. When I first put my trust in God I weighed a lot less than I do now but over the years I have thrown myself totally on his love and faithfulness. God has always been utterly reliable and I have always been absolutely secure.
