I was putting up a blind last week. It was 6ft long. I am 5ft 2 inches tall. The instructions said, "Hold the blind at both ends." I tried. The instructions didn't say, 'Hang the blind with the coloured side facing outwards towards the room and the blackout side facing inwards towards the window." Having hung the blind, which was difficult without holding both ends I realised I had hung it backwards and had to begin again. I did finally manage to get the blind up, although I was glad for the pollyfiller which masked the first set of holes which I had drilled in the wrong place. I also laid a laminate floor. Mitre blocks are a marvelous invention but even using one of those, there are at least three ways you can cut a length of beading at the wrong angle. The circular saw I had bought didn't have any instructions. I figured out how to attach the hoover but then forgot to turn it on when I sawed. I still don't know what the 'lock spindle' button is for, thankfully I didn't seem to need to lock the spindle. Later, I made a red velvet cake. The instructions said, four and a half tablespoons of vegetable oil. Is a groundnut a vegetable? I made cream cheese frosting. When I had almost finished, my daughter kindly got the recipe up on her smart phone. Adding some butter at the very end didn't seem to work all that well. The instructions on the box said bake for 25 minutes in two tins but I only had one tin so I doubled the time. Not everyone enjoyed the cake and frosting. There's a really good instruction book for life. It's called the Bible. I read it, but I must admit, I don't always stick to what it advises. That's a shame really because I believe it was inspired by someone who loves me and wants the best for me and I'm sure I would make a lot fewer mistakes in life if I did what it says instead of just hoping for the best.
