Shake the can.
This afternoon I was spraying some blocks of wood with gold aerosol paint. For a change, I thought I would read the instructions before I did it, rather than afterwards. I was notified of the need to shake the can well for 1 minute listening for the rattle of the mixing ball.
As I had just come in from work I felt in need of a cup of coffee to help me through the task.
I discovered it is not possible to hold a cup of coffee securely in one hand and vigorously shake an aerosol can with the other, without spilling the coffee. I tried it twice,
In the Bible in Psalm 16 there is a verse that reads " I am always aware of the Lord's presence, he is near and nothing can shake me." I thought of it today.
My aerosol arm had a destabilizing effect on my coffee cup arm. I have discovered that there are many things in this world that can shake us. We hear the rattle of our lives getting mixed up and it can be difficult to keep a grip on the coffee cup of of life and hold it steady. It's at times like that, when being certain God is near me, has kept me grounded.
