When the bottom drops out

This week I thought I would make toffee using some left over butter and syrup. I didn't look at a recipe, I just threw some sugar in and put it in the microwave. When a looked at it 90 seconds later, the toffee was bubbling away nicely - so was the plastic jug. I removed it from the oven wafting away the smoke. When I lifted the jug from the turntable the bottom fell out. I don't think I'm the only one to have had moments this year when I felt like that jug. Burnt out, smelly, and pouring out mess until I was empty.

I am so very thankful to know that when the bottom drops out of my world, I have the security of knowing that, as Deuteronomy 33 says, "The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms"

Expensive scones.

Today I made scones because my brother had made some weird jams like strawberry and kiwi and melon and ginger and we needed something to put them on. I got out my parents old Kenwood mixer, put flour in the bowl and chopped some butter into the flour. I broke the knife. Having attached the K beater I switched the marvelous mixer on. A strong smell of electrical burning filled the kitchen accompanied by clouds of thick grey smoke. I added egg and milk, finished making the dough and as I got a glass out of the cupboard to cut circles from the dough, I broke the glass.
My Mum said they were the most expensive scones she had ever eaten.
Some things don't really seem worth the effort or the expense.
When Jesus died so I could belong to him,he suffered a great deal of brokenness and paid a huge cost,  He still went through with it though, because he considered me worth it. Amazing don't you think?
