Haute Cuisine

This year we went for a very nice meal at a rather nice hotel. The food was delicious but my husband needed beans on toast when he got back because even after three courses he was still very hungry. I began to wonder who discovered that if you put tiny bits of stuff in minuscule white porcelain dishes and line them up on a long thin white porcelain plate, people will think they have had a very good dinner. In any other setting, two half potatoes, two  quarters of small onion, four tiny slices of lamb and half a parsnip with red gravy dribbled all round the rim of the plate would seem both mean and messy.
At Christmas, I was reminded once again, of the time the eternal got crammed into a mortal baby wrapped up in an animal feeding trough. At first glance it seemed mean and messy but it was actually gloriously generous and wonderfully sufficient. Once you begin to enjoy the truth of God's love and kindness, I believe your whole life can be full.
